Why Do People Cook?

Good story in the Economist: What’s cooking? The evolutionary role of cookery.

Richard Wrangham of Harvard proposes that the development of cooking is what enabled people to evolve to where they are today–it’s the “killer ap” that enabled people to get more energy from food, and thus fuel their brains.

And, because it’s the Economist, they don’t treat the raw foodists gently.
